Sometimes we forget that our skin is an organ. In fact it’s the largest organ in the body. It does so many important jobs as well as providing our internal organs with a barrier to the outside world. It helps regulate our temperature, produces Vitamin D, enables us to ‘feel’ and has a huge part to play in our immune response.
Acne
Acne is caused by dysfunction of the hair follicle and its accompanying sebaceous gland. The sebaceous gland produces sebum (the skins natural moisturizer), Acne begins to develop when keratin (found in hair, nails and the outermost layer of skin) over-accumulates and blocks the hair follicle (hyperkeratinization) obstructing the flow of sebum.

Rosacea
Rosacea affects more than 45 million people worldwide and often presents as a rash across the face which may sting or burn.
More common in women, Rosacea can be triggered by alcohol, spicy foods, and sun exposure.

Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is a common condition, that we see here in our Aesthetic clinic here in Cornwall, which darkening of the skin occurs due to an increase in melanin production. This darkening occurs when melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) over-produce melanin, forming concentrated deposits of brown pigment in the skin.

Wrinkles
As we get older, our skin looses collagen and therefore elasticity. Wrinkles and fine lines are an inevitable consequence of the ageing process.

I was very pleased with how the removal of my seborrheic keratosis, a large skin lesion, was done and can honestly say that no pain was felt, nor was anything rushed. Dr. Joe listened to what I had to say concerning the lesion and advised me as to how it was going to be removed. Tracy actually did the removal, which she did really well and I felt no pain whatsoever. I was talked through as to what was happening and the end result I am very satisfied with. They are very caring, professional and friendly people at Medfacials and you feel totally at ease at all times. I would have no hesitation in using them again.
