Find out everything you need to know about Collagen

Collagen is an amazing protein

Collagen is one of the main proteins found in your skin and actually forms about 80% of its make-up. It acts as the support system for your skin, hair and nails; providing structure and strength and also helps to fight off lines, wrinkles and sagging with the formation of a network of cells called fibroblasts.

We can help our bodies produce collagen

Whilst your body naturally produces this wonder protein, production does start to decline from about the age of 25 in women and this decline spikes again post-menopause. The decline in production of collagen can be precipitated by other factors such as UV exposure, smoking and high sugar intake.

Research has shown that collagen contained in lotions and potions may not be effective in adding collagen back into your skin; the molecules are too large to penetrate your skin, so whilst they have a positive effect in moisturising and reinvigorating your skin temporarily, collagen creams are not effectively re-building your body’s collagen stores.

All is not lost, however! You can help to boost your body’s production by eating adequate amounts of the vitamins and minerals needed for our body to complete collagen synthesis. Some vitamins, minerals and amino acids also work to preserve the collagen already present in our body.

Eating foods like kiwis, almonds, blueberries, avocado oil, dark green veggies, mango and eggs also helps; these anti-oxidant rich foods help boost collagen production from the outside in.

So what else can you do? We recommend you support your body’s natural collagen production with a skin supplement; there are a number of products on the market, but it is generally best to look for hydrolysed collagen which is more easily absorbed by our bodies.

Introducing Skinade

Here at MEDfacials, we have done our homework and we recommend using Skinade; a formulation of active ingredients that work to boost your body’s natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid (this little beauty is what keeps your skin hydrated and plump!).

Developed by scientists, it is a liquid supplement that works by delivering a blend of vitamins, minerals and marine collagen peptides to leave your skin plumped and hydrated, your skin thicker and fine lines and wrinkles reduced. It can also be used to treat lack-lustre hair and brittle nails too.

Skinade is highly bio-available which means that the body can absorb the active ingredients allowing for an absorption rate of a whopping 95%.

Skinade

We have recently come across a trial of Skinade undertaken by Cosmopolitan magazine; https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/reviews/a36676/skinade-30-day-collagen-drink-review/

Their tester trialled Skinade for 30 days and found a 30.5% increase in skin hydration and a 3.5% increase in skin thickness. Their opinion on Skinade was clear and simple.

“I would recommend giving Skinade a go if you want plumper, more hydrated skin with less lines and wrinkles – the results speak for themselves.” (Lucy Partington for Cosmopolitan Magazine, June 2015).

Skinade is available from our online shop and at the moment we have a special offer.  A month’s supply worth £115 is available for £105 on our shopping pages
