More information about Botox
As mentioned on our BOTOX® Treatment Page, Botox is an excellent treatment for fine lines and wrinkles that are mainly located in the upper part of your face. Often these lines are associated with facial expression/movement are called dynamic lines. However, when a wrinkle is getting deeper, it cannot be ironed out with just a single treatment of BOTOX®. Therefore we would recommend regular BOTOX® treatments, which we offer near you here in Truro, Cornwall.
Over a period of three to twelve months, Botox or other treatments such as Azzalure, Dysport or Bocouture will help to iron out these creases, but for a more immediate result, we do offer other treatment options such as dermal fillers, which may be a great alternative as well.
BOTOX® which is made by Allergan, won’t erase the wrinkles resulting from sun exposure. We do have other treatment options for this to improve the quality of the skin such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and our Tixel will provide more benefits.
Does BOTOX® have a preventative effect?
It makes sense that BOTOX® does prevent wrinkle formation if it is started before fixed wrinkles establish. However there is a careful balance when deciding to treat younger patients – premature treatment can make someone look older rather than the more youthful look desired. Whether or not treatment is appropriate is always decided on an individual patient basis.
What’s the ideal age for a BOTOX® treatment
There is no recommended age for BOTOX® treatment. At which age the treatment is most effective differs from person to person since our facial muscles present differently. A younger patient with dynamic facial features already beginning to cause visible lines may benefit from the power of BOTOX®.
As mentioned, BOTOX® can also be used to stop lines from appearing in future. However, during your consultation with your anti-wrinkle treatment specialist, you will receive an honest assessment of your needs and treatment expectations so you can make the most informed decision possible.
How often can I have treatments?
For repeat treatments providing maintenance for high activity areas and dynamic wrinkles, you can repeat treatments in intervals of three months at a minimum. The results may last longer for some, meaning repeat treatments may be less frequent.
Are there any Side-effects with Botox?
As with any injections, there can be bruising or bleeding at the injection site, but the main issues with Botox stem from over-treatment. Aesthetically, too much of it results in a frozen-looking face that can’t express emotion. If muscles are poleaxed with Botox for too long or too often and don’t get a chance to regain their full range of motion, they may begin to waste away through lack of use. Inexpert injecting can lead to drooping (ptosis) of the eyelid or brow, which will last until the effects of the toxin start to wear off — another good reason for starting with a low dose.
How much does it cost?
This varies depending on how many areas you have treated, but expect to pay from £150 per area (the lines between the eyebrows is one ‘area’, the crow’s feet are another ‘area’, horizontal lines on the forehead are a third ‘area’) at a reputable clinic and £450 or more for a top practitioner. Bear in mind that prices at prestigious clinics at prestigious addresses, like Harley Street in London, will be higher than elsewhere.
